The holidays are the perfect time to clean out your apartment in Beaufort, SC. While you are cleaning and organizing for parties, cookie swaps and get togethers, clean out your closets too and donate your gently used items. If you don’t have any items to donate, but you want to give to charity this holiday season, give money or a toy to the United Way of the Lowcountry.
United Way of the Lowcountry is more than half way to the $2.8 million goal of its annual campaign with $1.7 million collected of the ambitious goal.
It would be wonderful if United Way could reach that record $2.8 million. The goal was set higher this year because of the help that our neighbors need continues to grow.
The money goes to help 32 charitable organizations in Beaufort and Jasper counties. You can be confident your donation will help with the wide array of services these groups offer, including:
- Providing food, clothing and shelter in times of crisis and disaster recovery efforts.
- Training for parents, tutoring and recreation, affordable child care, teen pregnancy prevention, swimming and water safety classes.
- Affordable housing, shelter for abused adults and children, safe septic tanks and clean drinking water, literacy programs.
- Meals for seniors, delivery of surplus food, help for patients and families coping with AIDS/HIV and counseling for caregivers and the victims of violent crime.
Giving is easy. Just go to the group's website at uwlowcountry.org and click on "Give."
In addition to the annual fundraising campaign, there is another way you can help -- Operation Holiday Heroes. United Way is working with Toys for Tots and other agencies. The goal is to make sure every child has a present under the tree to open Christmas morning.
To contribute money to purchase toys and food vouchers, send a check made payable to Operation Holiday Heroes to United Way of the Lowcountry, P.O. Box 202, Beaufort, SC 29901.
Donations also can be dropped off at the United Way office at 2266 Boundary St. in Beaufort.
If you haven't yet donated to the annual campaign or have never donated before to the campaign or Operation Holiday Heroes, please consider giving. Every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference.
